Honigkuchenpferd / Gingerbread horse or Cheshire Cat

Honigkuchen ist ein Gebaeck aus lebkuchenaehnlichem Teig mit Gewuerzen (45%Zimt, 20% Anis, 20%Piment, 10%Nelken, 5% Koriander und eine Prise Ingwer) Die Glasur besteht zu mindestens 50 % aus reinem Bienenhonig, es darf auch Kunsthonig verbacken werden. Allgemein bekannt ist vor allem die Redewendung "grinsen wie ein Honigkuchenpferd". Redewendungen kann man bekanntlich nicht uebersetzen, jedoch im englischen gibt es eine aehnliche Redewendung, welche lautet: grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Die Cheshire Katze ist eine Figur aus dem Roman 'Alice im Wunderland', welche immer grinste. Die richtige Uebersetzung fuer Cheshire cat lautet jedoch Grinsekatze. Aber warum wird in der deutschen Redewendung fuer ein breites Grinsen das Honigkuchenpferd und im englischen die Grinsekatze verwendet? Keine Ahnung, ich bin der Meinung Honigkuchenpferd kann man nicht wirklich uebersetzen.

A gingerbread horse is a sweet food-product flavored with ginger and typically honey formed as a horse. In Germany there is a slight difference between a gingerbread and a honey cake. The honey cake is a variety of gingerbread with spices  mixed in this content: 45% cinnamon, 20 % anise, 20% Allspice, 10 % cloves, 5 % cilantro and 1 pinch ginger. The icing is made with at least 50% honey. But this is not what this is about. Today’s word is “Honigkuchenpferd” which is being used in the german language when somebody is grinning all the time and never stops. The german phrase is: Grinsen wie ein Honigkuchenpferd cannot be translated as honey cake horse. In the English language this is being translated as grinning like a Cheshire Cat. The Cheshire cat is a fictional cat popularized in 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and known for its distinctive mischievous grin. But if you translate Cheshire Cat into German you will get: Grinsekatze. Grinsekatze is something different than a Honigkuchenpferd. So I guess there is not really a translation for Honigkuchenpferd.
